Carlow’s Pride of Place Awards 2014

Overall Winners Announced

Ballon were announced as the overall winners at a gala event held in Mount Wolseley Hotel, Tullow with a large attendance of community activists from, resident/community groups, businesses and schools around the County in attendance. Clonegal received a special Recognition Award to mark their great achievement in winning the Tidiest Village in Ireland in this year’ National Tidy Towns Competition. Carlow County Council presented over 60 prizes last night to community groups throughout the County. The individual award went to Michael Kelly from Leighlinbridge, a man who has worked tirelessly and selflessly in his community for over 40 years.

Presentation of Awards

The awards were presented by Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council Cllr Fergal Browne, Deputy Major of the Municipal District of Carlow Cllr Jennifer Murnane O’Connor and Leas Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of Muinebheag Cllr John Murphy.

In his opening address the Cathaoirleach praised the communities stating “tonight we acknowledge and celebrate your dedication, sacrifices and contributions. We note your huge efforts and assure you that awards given tonight are well deserved”

“I think this community is the epitome of what Carlow’s Pride of Place is all about. Ballon are always enthusiastic about projects, participating in numerous initiatives always rising to the challenge. They involve all members of the community through participating in such annual events as Bike Week, Dawn Chorus, Charity Events...” said Master of Ceremonies, Michael Brennan.

The Michael Deering Cup was presented to the Community of St Mullins by Deputy Pat Deering T.D to acknowledge their successful hosting of visitors from Newfoundland who were attending the Newfoundland Connections Festival 2014 which took place in August.
